Saturday’s event was set to give a fix to the local adrenalin junkies of Auckland with the day interpreting Top 16 drifting FMX and your run of the mill bogan magnet burnout comp.
Driftcorps Emile Stevenson was back in the saddle after a quick end to his O.E. and for a guy who had just spent 6 months sponging around Europe looked like he had been driving his S13 every day he was gone, stringing together some of the most solid runs of the day qualifying 2nd overall.
As usual Gaz was setting a high benchmark and showing his fellow drivers what a 100 point run looked like. He qualified at the top of the field by miles but was shortly thereafter disqualified due to his SR20 screaming in at 15dB over the sound limit for the area!!!
After this call Gaz joined myself, JT, Aaron Bennett, Nick Teeboon, a disappointed Kyle Jackways (car failure)(He's used to it! Ed.) and Craig Palmer in the scissor lift to judge the battles. With around 13 cars left after disqualifications, run bearings and so on we had our feild set.
After some wild battles we had the first semi, Takeshi Vs Emile which after 2 re runs we had to call a winner on the 3rd battle!!! Emile proceeded to the final with a slight advantage on Takeshi 5-5 6-4.
Emile was in the final with new up and comer Cole Armstrong showing some mad skills and beating down on his high horsepower R34. Cole showed some great control just beating Emile in the 2nd re run.
After the boys were done sliding we managed to have a decent event run down in the clubrooms with the aid of some cheeeeeep $3 beers. Shot MVP
